I think I sent this by email to you. Not sure if it was a post on the list. 
But the command you're looking for is this:

rpm -hUv --force 
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/i386/CentOS/perl-5.8.8-18.el5.i386.rpm

That goes all into one line.
