Apparently I have done/said something to offend you in stating that
there isn't a CentOS 5 release that will load right up on a Cobalt. I
did mention the Strongbolt package, which is based on CentOS 4.
Honestly, I hadn't thought about or heard anything from Rackstar for a
long time. I just checked that website though, and it appears to be
based on Fedora Core 4, which I would consider a less-viable option than
Strongbolt's CentOS 4. At any rate, the Rackstar install process
appears more involved than Strongbolt, requiring the user to physically
remove the Cobalt drives and place them in another machine for imaging,
then put them back into the Cobalt. That's based on information I
found on the website... maybe something's changed since then.
The question that I answered was regarding how to load BlueOnyx via USB
CD onto a RaQ550. I said that cannot be done. I stand by that answer.
If I'm wrong, please correct me. I also opined that using an old
Cobalt as an Asterisk server wouldn't be the way I would go. I'd sooner
opt for some inexpensive, more conventional hardware.
As for the name calling, well, that's disappointing. I certainly
wouldn't call myself the wisest guru on this list, but I hope that I've
been able to help some people out from time to time. There are
certainly plenty of folks on this list that put a lot of effort into
lending a hand to other users. For free. For the benefit of the
community. When things begin to degrade to a name calling festival,
the folks that put the effort into helping others start to lose interest
and everybody loses.
Since you mentioned my use of the "cobaltfacts" address... that's
something that dates back to when there was a "cobaltfacts" list.
Anybody else remember those days? But I do use my real name, and even
sign each post with exactly who I am and even a phone number.
Oh... Linux was first released in 1991, so without the indignity of
revealing my own age, I can assure you I'm older than 18. Although, as
somebody who has just begun training for a half-marathon this spring...
oh, to be 18 again!!!
And with that... I wish everybody a good and prosperous start to your
week and end to your month. ;)
