Can't su to root via ssh again


Various attempts below.  Keep getting this "su: incorrect password"

[admin at garage ~]$ su root
su: incorrect password
[admin at garage ~]$ su -
su: incorrect password
[admin at garage ~]$ root
-bash: root: command not found
[admin at garage ~]$ su admin
Password:
[admin at garage ~]$ su root
su: incorrect password
[admin at garage ~]$ su -
su: incorrect password
[admin at garage ~]$ exit
exit
[admin at garage ~]$ exit

Already rebooted the server and changed the admin password thru the 
GUI.  Didn't help

Any ideas?

Going out of town fishing this weekend and would love to solve this 
before I hit the road.
