There is a package in the yum centos extras repository

[root at c102 SSL]# yum list | grep php-tidy
php-tidy.i386            5.1.6-15.el5.centos.1      extras    

php-tidy.i386 : Standard PHP module provides tidy library support

Maybe that will be OK? Michael?
I have not used it, but it is available
