I had to reboot twice to get httpd working, (still using new kernel) but the
server seems unstable, There was a server hang with no aparent reason and no
messages or maillog left

I am investigation if it’s a hardware issue (hard drive / ram)

Rodrigo, did reverting back to the older kernel solve your problem with
httpd not starting?
