Prompted by your message I've tried the domain.tld flavour, even though it's 
always worked on IP.  It's behaving exactly the same and adding 'base' to 
the URL.

Generally speaking the updates are great and trouble free, but the batch 
that installed yesterday seem to have altered quite a few things... this is 
my most troublesome.

Interesting to read about your weather - here in the UK prolonged hot and 
dry spells are significantly less of a problem :o)
