I see. I just tested it on a box with the Solarspeed PHP installed. This is 
how to get it working there:

Change step 5 to this:

5) /home/solarspeed/php/bin/pecl install ssh2 
channel://pecl.php.net/ssh2-0.11.2

(This goes into a single line)

Also change step 7 to this:

7) Create the following new file:

/home/solarspeed/php/etc/php.d/ssh.ini

Add the following into it:

extension=/home/solarspeed/php/lib/php/20090626/ssh2.so

Save the changes and restart httpd.

That should do the trick.
