Thank you Michael for you work, quick fix and explanation.

I was also hit and while I was sleeping the administrator on duty 
quickly removed two lines from each sitexx file in the httpd config, 
namely:
php_admin_value sendmail_path
php_admin_value auto_prepend_file

This brought us up again. I haven't done another yum after that, but will 
do so this night. Should I, before doing so, put these 2 lines back in in 
each sitexx config file, or will they again be automatically inserted by 
the fixed updates?
