Was this a certificate that you had exported *through* the GUI before?

Or was it an email attachment from the CA that you tried to upload? Some CA's 
send attachments which contain both the SSL certificate and the intermediate 
certificate. The GUI import mechanism cannot and will not handle these kind of 
uploads. It expects to find either just the SSL cert, or the intermediate. But 
not both in the same file.
