So everything appears normal, correct? (two 1TB SATA drives)
Personalities : [raid1]
md0 : active raid1 sdb1[1] sda1[0]
256896 blocks [2/2] [UU]
md1 : active raid1 sdb2[1] sda2[0]
1464878912 blocks [2/2] [UU]
unused devices: <none>
Do these things self-correct and rebuild on their own when they just get out
of sync?
Also smartctl -i -d ata /dev/sdx | grep Serial returns a "command not
found" error on my box.

to determine the physical drive that failed execute
smartctl -i -d ata /dev/sdx | grep Serial
for stata drives x is the drive letter 'a' 'b' 'c' and so forth
smartctl -i /dev/hdx | grep Serial
for ide drives.
When you are ready to replace the drive check the serial numbers to
determine the correct drive to replace
