[BlueOnyx:12797] mcrypt

Hi all,

I see mcrypt isn't included with php on SL6.4, nor in most of the RHEL6
family tree.

Not looking forward to compiling php against it, I went in search of a
solution. I think I have one, EPEL to the rescue :) but would like a
verdict on if it is safe for production use:

rpm -ivh
http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/x86_64/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
yum update
yum install php-mcrypt

then restart apache and disable the epel repo so it doesn't mess with daily
yum updates of other packages?
