[BlueOnyx:12937] Dovecot saslauthd pam

Hi All,
i have a problem with dovecot/sendmail auth:
i am running a bluequartz server which is not authenticating users anymore
i can see a lot of "dovecot-auth -w" processes stuck in the ps auxf output.

I have already restarted the machine, the sendmail, dovecot, cced, saslauthd, 
xinetd and more... but no chance...
Does anybody knows how to debug PAM issues? It seems a PAM issue...
