Michael,

The code that is throwing the error seems to have trouble parsing the 
output from "http://newlinq.blueonyx.it/renewalstatus/$serialNumber"

As we are only getting these errors every once in a while and not every 
15 mins could it be that the newlinq.blueonyx.it is outputting something 
unexpected at those times!?

Just an idea.
