More coffee is always good. :-)

But yeah, it's nuts for all the reasons you mentioned. With a setup like
that you can kiss security good bye. It's most likely that any
neighboring box can snoop on all the network traffic in the same subnet.
Which then also makes you wonder what else they're doing the "lazy way".
