I tried these and this is what I got in responce

mdadm hotadd /dev/md1 /dev/sda2
mdadm: An option must be given to set the mode before a second device is 
listed

mdadm /dev/md1 -a /dev/sda2
mdadm: Cannot open /dev/sda2: Device or resource busy
