I just looked at it and fixed it. I emailed the details of my findings to Uwe. My apologies that I couldn't look at it sooner. Just for the record: Here are some useful steps to debug quota issues on BlueOnyx VPS's on OpenVZ: 1a.) Make sure quota is enabled for the VPS. Just to be sure you can run this command on the command line of the node: vzctl set --quotatime 0 --quotaugidlimit 1000 --save Then restart the VPS to make sure the changes are put into effect. 1b.) *Only* use this step if you got to step #2 and things *still* didn't work: On the master node run this steps: vzctl stop vzquota drop vzctl start That will drop the quota database that OpenVZ keeps for the VPS in question. You can only do so when the VPS is stopped. On the restart of the VPS the missing quota database will be rebuilt from scratch. The restart of the VPS will therefore take considerably longer than usual. Sit this one out and wait until it is finished. Then continue with step #2 (and all others after it) as before. 2.) Run "repquota -a" inside the VPS. It *should* show a list of users and groups. If it does, quota works. If you get error messages about quota not being enabled or problems with /dev/simfs, then you can stop right here and need to go back to step #1b. 3.) Inside the VPS pick a user and a group and check their quota settings. Do not use system users for that (root or admin), as they have unlimited quota anyway. So pick a Vsite user instead: quota -s -g site1 quota -s -u That should show how many MB this group and this user are allowed to use. If it doesn't show anything, reports "unlimited" (or "0"), then quota information is not available, even though quota itself is running. We fix that in the next step: 4.) Run /usr/sausalito/sbin/disk_restorequotas.pl as root inside the VPS. It will read the quota allowances of sites and users from CODB and will publish it to the quota database of the filesystem. 5.) Run /usr/sbin/swatch as "root" inside the VPS. It will read how much disk space users and group are currently using and will update that information into CODB. These five steps allow you to check the quota functionality for correct behavior and allow you to repair the VPS disk quota if it's broken. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From mstauber at blueonyx.it Wed Aug 6 21:01:45 2014 From: mstauber at blueonyx.it (Michael Stauber) Date: Wed, 06 Aug 2014 21:01:45 -0500 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15742] Re: Clamav-milter error In-Reply-To: <53E22824.1010605@probass.com> References: <53E22824.1010605@probass.com> Message-ID: <53E2DE09.7020108@blueonyx.it> Hi Richard, > Timed out while reading clamd reply This is from an emailed Logwatch report? Are you missing that configuration file? /var/log/messages (syslog) requires specific configuration and its usually part of the linux distro. Cheers! I know the caveat > about the plugins not having GUI pages yet, but since it's just webmail, > I didn't figure that to be a problem, and I think that's not the trouble > here. There are a couple of things here, Chris: We're in the process of releasing all the PKGs for 5207R and 5208R. At this time around 90% of all PKGs available for 5107R/5108R are also available for 5207R and 5208R. This includes the NewLinQ PKG (without which you couldn't install any shop-purchase), the "Webapp Installer" (needed to install all the Web Apps such as RoundCube). Additionally pretty much all Webapps are ready. NewLinQ will only show you PKGs as available for install if the PKGs are designed for your type of BlueOnyx. So anything you see you should be able to install and it'll work just fine with the new GUI and the old one. BUT: There is indeed a problem with the RoundCube PKG. On 5208R it won't install and will bitch that the PKG is "not designed for this platform". Greg and I are currently looking into that. Expect a fix for that within the next 24 hours or so. The message "Please contact BlueOnyx support to request a manual server IP-address resync." is something entirely different. When a new server registers with NewLinQ, then NewLinQ will record the server serial number and IP. You can change the serial. You can change the IP. No biggy. NewLinQ will keep track of that. If both change ... then it requires a manual sync, because there is the small chance that this could be some shady business going on, like a cloned server. But it can happen for various and very legitimate reasons, too. If you get that message, just let us know and Greg will get you back in sync. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From gkuhnert at compassnetworks.com.au Tue Aug 19 02:41:17 2014 From: gkuhnert at compassnetworks.com.au (Greg Kuhnert) Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2014 17:41:17 +1000 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15796] Re: 5208R Please contact BlueOnyx support to request a manual server IP-address resync. What I have discovered (during testing) is that the issue seems to be dependent on the message body size. As the body size gets larger it takes longer and longer to send until it eventually times out. It bugs our clients most when they are replying to a long thread, when they get to a break point and cant send any longer. In any case they get bored waiting with the "message sending" dialogue and click off the window. We are instructing our clients to turn off in-line replies, so that the previous thread appears as an attachment - and this seems to work 100% so far (touch wood). There is some vague mention of this issue in the Roundcube Changelog for version 1.02, and I guess we may bite the bullet and do the upgrade. I would be interested to hear how you have been getting on with this problem. It's actually under .... darn, you're right. :p Looks like I forgot to add it. \o/ Gimme two hours and I publish an update that has it. It'll be reachable in the menu "User Management" under the menu entry "User List". I will have to remove the "User Name Generation", though. The JavaScript for that is intermingled with a metric ton of old-GUI JavaScript-boondogglery. I doubt that I can extract the relevant functions and make it play nice with the new GUI. The required effort for that and the resulting gain would be in no useful relation to each other. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From dirk.estenfeld at bpanet.de Fri Aug 22 09:55:10 2014 From: dirk.estenfeld at bpanet.de (Dirk Estenfeld) Date: Fri, 22 Aug 2014 14:55:10 +0000 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15801] Re: BlueOnyx 5207R/5208R Beta release available - 3rd party sw In-Reply-To: <53C82B13.8020209@blueonyx.it> References: <53C6E518.8050900@blueonyx.it> <03da01cfa15c$b6c15360$2443fa20$@webcoast.com> <53C73729.6080807@blueonyx.it> <53C78EB7.3040505@waveweb.ch> <53C82B13.8020209@blueonyx.it> Message-ID: <8b4dceb762d541dca5942691c8f30f7f@bpa08.bpade.local> Michael, how is the actual state for this process? Yeah, there are a few essential PKGs that ought to be done first of all: - AV-SPAM - APF Firewall with Dfix 2 - Backup - PHP These are the ones that I'll do first. As for an ETA on that? Hard to say. I'm currently trying to create BlueOnyx 5209R (for CentOS7), so that I can then do all PKGs in new versions for all platforms at the same time to save effort. I just started on 5209R yesterday and I'm not yet certain if I can do it in three days or three weeks. There is some shit (excuse my French) that at this time simply refuses to build. I don't know what they did with GCC (and rpmbuild) on EL7, but they're *that* picky and oversensitive that it's no longer fun. Bloody rpmbuild now even bitches (and fails to build RPMs) if the bloody dates in the %changelog have the wrong weekday specified. Which is utter stupidity. GCC currently buggers out on the PHP module for the GUI, which is a bit of a dealbreaker. I'm still trying to find a way around that obstacle. But back to topic: It sure is essential to have the most common PKGs ready for 5207R/5208R, so I'll make room for it one way or another. Expect the most common PKGs to be available on NewLinQ within the next 2-3 weeks. PHP will be there first, then APF and then the AV-SPAM. The rest will slowly dribble in over time. When a PKG becomes available via NewLinQ for the new platforms, then we'll announce it in the news in the shop. -- With best regards Michael Stauber _______________________________________________ Blueonyx mailing list Blueonyx at mail.blueonyx.it http://mail.blueonyx.it/mailman/listinfo/blueonyx From cobaltfacts at virtbiz.com Fri Aug 22 12:18:50 2014 From: cobaltfacts at virtbiz.com (Chris Gebhardt - VIRTBIZ Internet) Date: Fri, 22 Aug 2014 12:18:50 -0500 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15802] Re: BlueOnyx 5207R/5208R Beta release available - 3rd party sw In-Reply-To: <8b4dceb762d541dca5942691c8f30f7f@bpa08.bpade.local> References: <53C6E518.8050900@blueonyx.it> <03da01cfa15c$b6c15360$2443fa20$@webcoast.com> <53C73729.6080807@blueonyx.it> <53C78EB7.3040505@waveweb.ch> <53C82B13.8020209@blueonyx.it> <8b4dceb762d541dca5942691c8f30f7f@bpa08.bpade.local> Message-ID: <53F77B7A.4000100@virtbiz.com> Hi Dirk, On 8/22/2014 9:55 AM, Dirk Estenfeld wrote: > Michael, > > how is the actual state for this process? > I want to migrate a customer to the new version. > But I need php and av-spam to do this. > When will it be available for R5208? About 90% of the PKGs are available for 5207R and 5208R. This includes: - NewLinQ - WebApp Installer - PHP-5.3.29 - PHP-5.4.31 - PHP-5.5.15 - All Web Applications (including RoundCube) - AWStats 7.4 (finished yesterday) What's still missing is this: - OpenWebmail (will be finished today) - Automated Backup (will be finished over the weekend) - Updated APF with DFIX2 integration instead of BFD - AV-SPAM The AV-SPAM will probably be ready within 7-10 days, so gimme until the end of this month to get that sorted. It will take this long, because I won't just "tack" the new GUI on top of it. Instead it'll be completely redone from scratch. Some constructors and handlers of the AV-SPAM actually go back to the year 2000 and have changed only on an "as needed" basis in the years since then. While there is nothing wrong with the code and it's still as functional now as it was back then: I really want to take this opportunity to draw on the vast experience gained in between and make it a lot smoother, more lean and easier to maintain. The new BlueOnyx GUI also was done with the AV-SPAM integration in mind, which will greatly simplify the process and will make the end result more functional. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From robert at webtent.org Sat Aug 23 15:15:31 2014 From: robert at webtent.org (Robert Fitzpatrick) Date: Sat, 23 Aug 2014 16:15:31 -0400 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15804] dnsMXmassChange.pl Message-ID: <53F8F663.5040306@webtent.org> I tested this script on a 5108 server which instructs as follows: To use it, run it with the followinng parameters: /usr/sausalito/sbin/dnsMXmassChange.pl -o old-MX-host -n new-MX-host When ran as shown, did not use the word ALL for sure, it changed ALL mx records on the server to the new mx used. Hence we just released the first production ready ISO images and OS templates for BlueOnyx 5207R and 5208R and dropped the BETA tag from it. The ISO images can be found at the downloads page: http://www.blueonyx.it/index.php?page=downloads Updated OS templates of BlueOnyx 5207R and 5208R have also been published. If you're using Aventruin{e}, then you should see them when you use "yum search ostemplate". There is more: ============== After a grace period I would like to discontinue 5107R and 5108R entirely by publishing an update via YUM that upgrades them to 5207R and 5208R respectively. These upgrades via YUM work pretty well and generally there is little that speaks against it. It's just the GUI that gets replaced with the newer one. But I'll listen to contrary points of view. The date I'm oogling for this mandatory update is 1st October 2014. The reason is that right now we're maintaining/developing six different versions of BlueOnyx plus two versions of Aventurin{e}. Count in availability on CentOS and/or SL, ISOs and OS templates and we're somehow talking about 23 different installation medias that need to be provided and/or updated from time to time. As much as that is automated, at the end of the day each of these install mediums needs testing before a release. Taking 5107R and 5108R "out of play" reduces that number to four supported versions of BlueOnyx and 13 different forms of installation media. Which makes it a hell of a lot more manageable for us. I'm respectful of the fact that you bear most of the heavy lifting for the maintenance of the project. Reducing unnecessary burden is a great idea, and I am very supportive. I might submit that October 1, barely more than a month away, seems precious little time for a fairly extreme move. With such a short announcement window it could feel rather arbitrary. My concern is that when moves such as this appear arbitrary, that diminishes the feeling of legitimacy that users might have toward BlueOnyx. Since we are enjoying the momentum of the project at a fairly high level right now, I hesitate to put that in jeopardy. Perhaps we may consider a somewhat more gentle nudge that requires the user's approval on the upgrade, but lays out the consequences of refusing the upgrade. That goes something like this: 1: BlueOnyx announces the official release of 5207/8R, which replaces 5107/8R. 2: With the new release in official production, 5107/8R will be phased out. No maintenance will occur on the old GUI after ________. I suggest that date to be December 31, 2014. 3: A yum update is pushed to 5107/8R boxes that adds a pop-up or a replacement of the news page (effective now!) that gives the alert and the option to UPDATE NOW or IGNORE. 4: UPDATE NOW option executes script to yum update to 5207/8R, while IGNORE simply does nothing. 5: For those who ignore and do not upgrade, they continue to see the announcement upon login until January 1, 2015. At that time, the announcement changes to mention that they are now operating on an obsolete version of BlueOnyx. We encourage an upgrade now, because it's fantastic and wonderful and, oh yes, official support for their version has ended. Would you like to upgrade now? It's free. The water's fine, come on in. They can still ignore, but we're making them well aware of the consequences. While that extends your heavy lifting for another 3 months, I feel it is a more graceful and, may I say, professional approach. It also has the added benefit of ensuring that the liability for upgrading (or not) is squarely with the system administrator. They need to make sure that they are ready for the update. If they've banged in some odd plugin, or managed to hack an old PKG into the system, or made modifications of their own outside official channels, we're not arbitrarily stomping on that. They can still run the old GUI, but they're going to lose ongoing support and will get nagged at every login (and every click over to Server Management). I think that this approach is potentially valuable to the project, as well as potentially valuable to Michael, who as I've mentioned bears the great majority of the burden of providing updates and responding to any ensuing fallout. After all, the upgrade is non-reversible. Microsoft is a favorite punchline, but this is similar to their (most recent) approach with Windows XP. Sure, fellas, you can continue to run it. But we're going to make really REALLY sure that you know we think it's a bad idea and we feel you should upgrade right now. -- Chris Gebhardt VIRTBIZ Internet Services Access, Web Hosting, Colocation, Dedicated www.virtbiz.com | toll-free (866) 4 VIRTBIZ From mstauber at blueonyx.it Wed Aug 27 06:12:39 2014 From: mstauber at blueonyx.it (Michael Stauber) Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2014 06:12:39 -0500 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15822] Re: BlueOnyx 5207R/5208R released In-Reply-To: References: <53FD3DC3.1090109@blueonyx.it> Message-ID: <53FDBD27.6070803@blueonyx.it> Hi Dan, > Are there any plans to put the new GUI on Aventurin{e} ? Yes, it's planned. I'm still wrapping up creating the last missing commercial PKGs for BlueOnyx and there is also the development of BlueOnyx 5109R. But Aventurin{e} will get the new GUI as well and I might tackle that before I continue the work on 5109R. The new GUI will also allow me to handle VPS creation and management in a more direct way than before. In the past I had to round-robin all vzctl commands through CODB. I also needed to store around 230 parameters for each VPS in CODB, which is a logistic nightmare. With the new GUI I'll just store the bare metal configs in CODB and can read the rest in on an as needed basis. That will remove a lot of complication from the VPS GUI and will also make it faster and more reliable. So I'm really looking forward to get this done. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From mstauber at blueonyx.it Wed Aug 27 06:14:32 2014 From: mstauber at blueonyx.it (Michael Stauber) Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2014 06:14:32 -0500 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15823] Re: BlueOnyx 5207R/5208R released In-Reply-To: <000f01cfc1a5$301ac8a0$905059e0$@gmail.com> References: <53FD3DC3.1090109@blueonyx.it> <000f01cfc1a5$301ac8a0$905059e0$@gmail.com> Message-ID: <53FDBD98.6050402@blueonyx.it> Hi Michael, > Also what will happen to software packages that are not > compatible with the new GUI. Yeah, with the feedback so far I think this is the best approach, Chris. So let us do that. This gives those who want more time for the upgrade enough time to prepare and those who want to upgrade sooner can do so at their own pace with a bit more ease. Then on January 1st I'll push the update to YUM one way or the other. I agree that this is perhaps the best solution. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From rgutery at gmail.com Wed Aug 27 09:00:19 2014 From: rgutery at gmail.com (Richard Gutery) Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2014 08:00:19 -0600 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15825] KDE (GUI) with BlueOnyx Message-ID: I am new to this list, so please forgive me if I am in the wrong arena. The thinking here is: Graphical desktop is for workstations, while BlueOnyx is a server OS. Mixing both is a bit of a challenge and also exposes the server part to compromises due to more ports being exposed to the network and more services that are running. We also did some optimizations to the OS which aren't really desktop friendly and could contribute to the problems you're seeing with KDE. So my suggestion would be: Use BlueOnyx the way it was designed and install your graphical desktop on another server. That way you get the best out of both. Additionally: The KDE and Gnome (and all programs that go with them) are usually really ancient on CentOS6 or SL6. They don't put any efforts into keeping them current, as it's after all a server OS. Personally I tried CentOS6 as desktop OS only briefly after it came out and then moved back to Fedora. I'm now using Ubuntu LTS, as I don't feel like having to upgrade/reinstall my workstation OS every half a year to keep it current. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From cobaltfacts at virtbiz.com Wed Aug 27 09:17:25 2014 From: cobaltfacts at virtbiz.com (Chris Gebhardt - VIRTBIZ Internet) Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2014 09:17:25 -0500 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15828] Re: KDE (GUI) with BlueOnyx In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <53FDE875.7070008@virtbiz.com> Hi Richard, On 8/27/2014 9:00 AM, Richard Gutery wrote: > I am new to this list, so please forgive me if I am in the wrong arena. > If there is an alternative area I should be in please let me know. > ? > Errata: > ? > Scientific installed and running fine. Team BlueOnyx doesn't support that functionality, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it. Anything that you need to do with the server can be done via the web GUI. If you're looking for a box to run KDE or Gnome on, it's best to use a separate system for that. The two purposes are not going to be compatible with each other on the same platform. That DNA has been built upon over the years and I'm glad you agree it's a very capable platform. I don't recommend adding Webmin. There's really no reason. All of your functions are managed via BlueOnyx. That's the whole point of the system. If you add anything else, you risk breaking BlueOnyx. The longer fix: Check which YUM cache directory is there: ls -la /var/cache/yum/x86_64/6.*/Solarspeed.net-AVSPAM-v51/packages/ Instead of 6.* it should be 6.4 or 6.5. Change into that directory and traverse down to Solarspeed.net-AVSPAM-v51/packages/ In there run this: "rpm -hUv --force --nodeps *.rpm" Then do a "yum clean all" and "yum update" again and it'll go through fine. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From dirk.estenfeld at bpanet.de Fri Aug 29 08:19:01 2014 From: dirk.estenfeld at bpanet.de (Dirk Estenfeld) Date: Fri, 29 Aug 2014 13:19:01 +0000 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15843] maybe little bug in 5208R Message-ID: <57b60f42c64b4c9188fc0a4c272c2c6c@bpa08.bpade.local> Hello, I think I found a little bug in SSL virtual host settings. After I created a self signed certificate the /home/sites/.../certs directory was created and I did not get further error messages. Only activating SSL functionality for a virtual site is not creating the certs directory. Also an import seems not to create the directory if it is missing. I looked into this. The PHP errors you got actually prevent the creation of the directory. I fixed the problem that caused the PHP errors. Additionally I also added some better checks to see if both key and certificate are present. If one or more of them is missing (or the entire certs directory), then no certificate info will be shown and the checkbox to enable SSL will be turned off and read-only. That should solve the issue. I did a few tests with imported and creating certificates and it seems to work well now. Updated base-ssl RPMs are being published to the 520XR YUM repository now. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From barrettjohn941 at yahoo.com.tw Fri Aug 29 13:55:17 2014 From: barrettjohn941 at yahoo.com.tw (John Barrett) Date: Sat, 30 Aug 2014 02:55:17 +0800 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15846] Re: VPS won't start Help In-Reply-To: <53FF4180.5070202@probass.com> References: <01fb01cfc2c7$8a94c600$9fbe5200$@tikklik.nl> <53FF4180.5070202@probass.com> Message-ID: <1409338517.80282.YahooMailNeo@web75302.mail.tw1.yahoo.com> Get back to me with full details on how to get this done. The routing table usually gets updated when a VPS or the service "vz" is restarted. Due to a previous kernel error this didn't happen anymore and the routing table had +41000 entries. A lot of them were duplicates. The resolve was to reboot the box to clear the kernel issue. Afterwards (as this is a cluster that uses DRBD and Heartbeat) all that was left to do was to wait until Heartbeat made the cluster primary, so that /vz was getting mounted and that the service "vz" could be started. I did speed that along by making the box primary via manual intervention. That was all there was to do: Reboot, make primary (so that /vz gets mounted) and let service "vz" start the VPS's. -- With best regards Michael Stauber From greggk1 at cox.net Sat Aug 30 18:46:08 2014 From: greggk1 at cox.net (Gregg K) Date: Sat, 30 Aug 2014 16:46:08 -0700 Subject: [BlueOnyx:15848] new GUI In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <038601cfc4ac$929e7170$b7db5450$@net> Hello, I just installed the new GUI on 2 servers, and it looks great.
