Hi Michael,

i have some progress.

I have renamed mysql.sock and restarted as follows.

|mv/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock.bak
|

/sbin/service mysqld restart


This has started the Mysql server and brought  the sites back up, but I 
still have no access from the gui ??

I rebooted, but still no access or at least no 'statement of access' 
from the gui ??
