And just to chime back in I think both wildcard certs and DNS are valid. I
just got a wildcard cert myself and it make life much easier when using SSL
on 7 dedicated servers I run.

The main problem I was expressing was in allowing wildcards for an apache
virtual host. That would be the main weak point in a misuse situation such
as I and Michael Stauber laid out.
