Ok found the issue and is resolved know.
had to remove smarthost and re add it
the stop all email services in the GUI
then did the following
/etc/rc.d/init.d/dovecot restart
/etc/rc.d/init.d/saslauthd restart
/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail restart

all is now good to RC a happy camper
