The "14: Peer cert cannot be verified or peer cert invalid" is usually
triggered if the mirrorlist URL is using HTTPS instead of HTTP. YUM then
makes a HTTPS connection and also tries to verify the certificate and
its certificate chain, before it uses the mirror.

The error "14: Peer cert cannot be verified or peer cert invalid" is
raised if the mirror has no HTTPs certificate or has an invalid (self
signed or expired) certificate.

This should never fire for a pure HTTP connection.

Our mirrors do not use HTTPS (although mirror.smd.net has a self signed
cert) and the YUM repository config files also do not use HTTPS.

So I wonder why this error should be raised.
