Yes. And you can either use full paths, or if both files are in the same
directory you can make do without using the full paths.
The error message you posted showed that you had an "e" too much in the
file name. "pam_able" instead of "pam_abl".
It helps to use the tabulator key for auto-completion. Example:
cd /etc/security/
cp pam + press the TAB key.
A press of the TAB key will then look if there are one or more files or
folders that match. Then you type in the next couple of characters of
the file you want to copy and then again press TAB to let it
auto-complete the rest. That usually avoids getting the file names wrong.
