Yeah, but he is scratching his head as well.

One Wordpress works fine. And several others don't. phpMyAdmin works,
too. So generally the onboard PHP-5.4.16 can talk to MariaDB via mysqli,
which seems what the non-working Wordpress installs seem to be using.

Am still digging. As far as "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" go? That's not an
issue there. It's a VPS with IPv6 disabled and both the working and
nonworking Wordpress use "localhost".
