To verify which version of MySQL or MariaDB you have installed, run this command from the shell: "mysql -V".

And yes: PHP will report a different version of MySQL/MariaDB, because the version it relates to is the version PHP was compiled against. Our PHP is compiled with MySQLi-support, which will work with any version of MySQL or MariaDB. This has no effect on functionality.
