working on 5209 and seeing behavior i do not expect

i have a vsite xyz.com
DNS A record for xyz.com
a CNAME for www -> xyz.com

going to http://xyz.com gives expected result
going to http://www.xyz.com gets redirected to http://www.xyz.com:444 and the login screen 
going to http://www.xyz.com/index.html http://xyz.com/index.html as expected
