Hmmm. You said the error message was this?

That looks to me as if no SMTP-Auth was tried. Or maybe it was tried and
failed.
Any more info in /var/log/messages?
I'd try RoundCube next just to see if it generally works for the
account. If it does, then it's a configuration issue in Outlook such as
trying to SMTP-Auth with the email-address as username, wrong password
or not using SMTP-Auth at all.
