<br />Shouldn't that be </font><font size="3">"/home/.sites/28/site1/<span style="font-weight: bold;">web/</span>tmp/com_updater(2).tgz</font><font size="2"><font size="3">"??

<br />Did you accidentally put that path into the Joomla set up without the "web" directory? Or is it wrong in the /home/.sites/28/site1/web/configuration.php file??

<br />Yep - I bet its the variable "$tmp_path" in the configuration.php file. Fix that by adding <span style="font-weight: bold;">web/</span>, and I bet it works OK.
