Check the server's DNS settings. That sounds suspiciously like no DNS resolution by the server.

When you make a connection - the FTP deamon tries to do a reverse lookup to log the name with the IP of the computer initiating the connection. After the timeout period - it will just log IP and let you in. But if your WSFTP timeout is shorter, you won't connect on first try. Click try again - and you're in.

But close WSFTP and start over - and the FTP deamon is going to try that reverse lookup again.

I'll bet you have a DNS lookup issue on the server.

Subject: [BlueOnyx:10542] Recent ProFTP update

> Would the recent update to ProFTP on the 5106R cause me to get a
connect
>
error the 1st time I connect to a site that I havent connected to in a
>
while? I get a:
>
>
Failed to receive response after connect
>
Host type (1): Automatic Detect
>
>
When using wsftp on port 21. If I try again it connects. If I close wsftp
>
and come back I get the same sequence. I never had this issue before. I
>
reboot does not clear it up. On the other 4 servers all running same BO and
>
same exact hardware this is not happening.
