Hi Mac (makes me hungry, its about 18:00 here in the Netherlands),

<br />The fans of a server (almost every server brand and model) will be running at their maximum capicity. This is to blow away dust at start and to test the fans.

<br />Normaly when the server has no errors left (this is the binking led i'll come to next) the fans will turn down to a more normal sound. But they will still be loud! Nobody is living in a serverroom so they didn't plan on the soundlevel of the servers, but to cool them down as much as possible.

<br />The blinking LED means there are errors present in the system. Could be errors still existing, or just old errors in the log. I beleive you can flush the error log in the main bios of the Dell server. There you can also check (before you erase the log!) what error was given and troubleshoot the problem.

<br />I beleive that the fans will be 'normal' after you have fixed the errors. It is intended to work this way; When you are away form the physical location and the server is malfunctioning you want it to try and stay alive (and that means cooling!).
