I had tried removing admin rights but that didn't work. I added it back and tried removing but the user still has admin rights.</pre>

Please run "tail -f /var/log/messages" while you do the delete. The
output from that would greatly help with diagnostics.
Also, try this: If the adminUser had shell access, remove the shell
access first and save the changes. Then try to remove the user again.
This might help.
