<br />We have had a similar situation, about 1,5 years back. Back then the file xmlrpc.php was getting hammered, so many new requests where made that the 4GB (at that time) simply wasn't enough.
<br />Nowdays its most of the time bad plugins or Wordpress sites not being up to date (and being exploited). My servers all have 16GB now, and i've never run out off memory again.
<br />When it hangs, what is the memory usage and CPU at that time? Can you still login to the box with SSH when it happens?

<br />Last 1,5 years we have had no problems with 5208R on ESXi, so that should not be the problem.
