Hello Anson,

I think that your servers cd-rom is attached to a "kernel unknown" IDE
controller. A wild guess: Is it a late model Supermicro server/mainboard?

Supermicro started using an IDE controller made by ITE Technologies that is
not supported by the Linux kernel as standard!?
Why did that do that? Don't know, but I think that it is not a smart choice
they made. IDE has been around for a long time an soon to be sort of end of
life...

If you use a external cd/dvd player attached to the usb port you'll be fine.
You can also change de cd-drive to a model attached to a SATA port, that
will work also.

If you choose the external usb route do this.

Boot the server from the cd in the external cd-rom.
If you get the same message saying "it cannot download the kickstart file"
unplug the usb cord for a few seconds, plug it back in, give it some time to
mount the drive and then just hit enter again. It will then find the cd-rom
and installation will finish just fine.

I had some servers behaving like yours so I've done this a few times already
;-(

Good luck!

I've searched the archive, but can't find this issue.

I downloaded and burned the most recent ISO from blueonyx.it.

When it starts the download, whether I use small, self, or just hit enter, I
get the error that it cannot download the kickstart file.

The path it's searching is cdrom:/ks/kickstart.cfg

I checked the CD and the file is there, and in that directory.
