Try this for TYPO:

1. Edit /etc/httpd/conf/vhosts/sitexxx.include

<Directory "/home/.sites/xx/sitex/web/">
    AllowOverride all
    Options +FollowSymLinks +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch 
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
</Directory>

2. Set Safe Mode    Off

3. service httpd restart

Thanks, Steffan.   But by default virtual sites already have access to 
/home, /tmp, /var/lib/php/session/ and the root directory of the virtual 
site in question.

For grins I added the directory in manually, but no joy.
