Michael - what I don't get, then, is why I didn't run into the issue until
very recently.  That particular server had been running for a few months
without issue, even after a reboot on the 12th.  I suppose something could
have changed at the host between then and now (you know more about how this
works than I do).  I wonder if the VPS stuff was always slightly off and
then some sort of name resolution-related CentOS update exacerbated the
issue.  I dunno.  At least my simple change survives across a reboot and
seems to clear it up.  I'll dig further to see if there's something they
need to change.  What I still don't get about the name resolution is that my
actual correct fqdn was listed for the 127.0.0.1 address, and removing it
from there actually corrected the issue resolution issue.  Go figure.
