I had the same problem over the weekend. Downloaded the latest iso
(BlueOnyx-5.5-20110313) and did an install, FTP alerts started coming in
with error it was not able to find files. Proftpd was not installed, did
the yum install as you did and all fine. Like Gerald said, it is on
xinetd, I found in /var/log/messages ;)
