Most accurately: disk IO is normally the bottleneck for *any* 
virtualized platform.

You can do that, certainly.  Some of my customers with big VPS machines 
use the strategy of multiple volumes spread across diverse sets of 
disks.  The theory there is that you are not putting all of your eggs in 
the single bottle-necked basket.
