"default" behaviour is a bit ambigious, as the default has changed over time.

In BlueQuartz (and early BlueOnyx releases) the "default" was that the web
alias always redirected to the FQDN of the site as listed in the GUI's
sitelist.

Example: Your site was named www.site.com and had the web alias
"mail.site.com". If you called up "mail.site.com" in the browser, it
redirected to "www.site.com".

This equals the behaviour of "Web alias redirect" checkbox ticked.

Then we released an update about half a year ago, which made the "new default"
that a web alias no longer redirected to the primary name of the site. Which
was a bad idea and sort of an oversight.

Finally, with the release of the updates that contain the "Web alias
redirects" checkbox, the new "default" behaviour is again that the checkbox IS
ticked for new sites and that a web alias ideally will always redirect to the
primary name of the site.

However, I am always reluctant to "force" such new defaults onto users during
an update. So when this update was installed, I did not let the update run the
script that switches all existing sites to the new default.

Instead you have the choice if you want all sites to be switched to the same
"Web alias redirects" behaviour by running the script, or if you want to
handle it manually on an as needed basis through the GUI.

To answer the other question:

/usr/sausalito/sbin/web_alias_redirects.pl --enabled

This means: Checkbox ticked and a call to an alias will redirect to the
primary name of the site. Which is the old BlueQuartz behaviour and the new
default in BlueOnyx.
