Hi Blues,

Got a question. I trying to figure out weather I have the right selection
set for my motherboard

In the Bios you can choose Native IDE Mode, Raid, or AHCI mode. I choose
AHCI mode

And installed Aventurine with 3ea 500gig with 16 meg buffers hard drives and
choose software mirror on Aventurine install.

According to this article I googled
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/how-fast-is-linux-sata-hard-disk.html

Linux kernel will recognize it and it does. I ran some tests and would be
curious if someone else

Could also run these tests on you BO box if your using Sata 300 drives.

At the command prompt "#" These are the commands I run and the results I get

# sudo hdparm -I /dev/sda | grep -i speed

           *    SATA-I signaling speed (1.5Gb/s)

           *    SATA-II signaling speed (3.0Gb/s)

# sudo hdparm -I /dev/sdb | grep -i speed

           *    SATA-I signaling speed (1.5Gb/s)

           *    SATA-II signaling speed (3.0Gb/s)

# sudo hdparm -I /dev/sdc | grep -i speed

           *    SATA-I signaling speed (1.5Gb/s)

           *    SATA-II signaling speed (3.0Gb/s)

# sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:

 Timing cached reads:   5556 MB in  2.00 seconds = 2781.70 MB/sec

 Timing buffered disk reads:  340 MB in  3.01 seconds = 112.95 MB/sec

sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:

 Timing cached reads:   5524 MB in  2.00 seconds = 2764.87 MB/sec

 Timing buffered disk reads:  358 MB in  3.06 seconds = 116.89 MB/sec

sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sdc

/dev/sdc:

 Timing cached reads:   5440 MB in  2.00 seconds = 2721.31 MB/sec

 Timing buffered disk reads:  324 MB in  3.02 seconds = 107.38 MB/sec

I really am looking for comparison as I don't quite understand all the
results.

Any feed back would be appreciated

David Kreifels
