My 5400 RPM WD WD15EARS (3.5" 1.5 TB) Green drives don't fair as well...

[root at sme ~]# /sbin/hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 2232 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1114.95 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 250 MB in 3.02 seconds = 82.89 MB/sec
[root at sme ~]# /sbin/hdparm -tT /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:
 Timing cached reads: 2396 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1197.65 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 282 MB in 3.02 seconds = 93.34 MB/sec
[root at sme ~]# /sbin/hdparm -tT /dev/sdc

/dev/sdc:
 Timing cached reads: 2216 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1107.41 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 284 MB in 3.01 seconds = 94.38 MB/sec

This is RAID5... The other (with laptop drives) was RAID 1+0

Interesting...... I just bought 3 WD 1TB (Caviar Green WDBAAY0010HNC-NRSN
Hard Drives) From what I read they weren't recommend for raid but some
people had been using them in raid setup. I'm gone use these for Archive
things. For now the 3 Seagate ST3500418AS SY drives will do for what I need.

And I just tried it Hot Swapping a Sata Drive, mounted it from command line
And transferred my files over to it. This is what I read about AHCI mode
That's nice. No more shutdown the server to change my Archive drive.

I like it.
