There aren't any limits in BO that would stop you doing this, generally 
speaking the limit is based in the hardware.

It wouldn't really be any harder to do with BO other than some of the 
tools you may want to use may clash with the GUI.  e.g. being able to 
edit files via the GUI and the load balancer toolkit.

FWIW, if you are serious about spreading beyond one box you are better 
off separating services.  Instead of having three BO boxes behind a load 
balancer, all running web, database & email you would be better off 
setting up those three servers as dedicated  web, database & email servers.

While everything that Chris said on his mail is spot on it's worth 
bearing the above in mind if you are considering growing.
