Hi RC,

Looking at the output of systemctl status mailman, you showed this:
 > Dec 28 08:57:20Â  mailmanctl[5951]: self.__write()
 > Dec 28 08:57:20Â  mailmanctl[5951]: File
 > "/usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/LockFile.py", line 422, in __write
 > Dec 28 08:57:20Â  mailmanctl[5951]: fp = open(self.__tmpfname, 'w')
 > Dec 28 08:57:20Â  mailmanctl[5951]: IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or

But your clip from /var/log/messages indicates that the service started
about 2 minutes later:
Dec 28 09:00:01Â systemd: Started Session 6439588 of user mailman.

So you have conflicting reports from systemctl and /var/log/messages.
I'm at a loss to explain that. (I admit that systemd remains a bit
mysterious to me, though I'm being forced to understand it more and more
as the days wear on.)

I would say the output of /var/log/messages should be trusted in this
case. Mailman actually IS running. But you may want to see if the
service is actually running by monitoring traffic through a mailman list.

Perhaps someone with a better grasp on systemd will be able to chime in
if you're still having difficulty.
