Ok, I solved this. I downloaded the sources for mariadb-galera, moved
the conflicting plugins from  /usr/lib64/mysql/plugin/ to
/usr/lib64/mysql/plugins/ instead and rebuilt the RPMS.

So if you run ...

yum clean all
yum update

... it should now go through without any conflicts.
