That is very interesting.   I wonder if you know what hypervisor is in 
use there, and perhaps it also applies to Brian's situation.

Yikes.   I cannot imagine inflicting that type of pain on a user.   In 
my opinion, any system that a provider issues a customer should "just 
work" and should not require that type of manual intervention.   If our 
BlueOnyx VPS or dedicated hardware customers were unable to reliably 
reboot without having to resort to manually repairing the network 
configuration each time, I can only imagine the unhappy customers we 
would be dealing with.

If the hypervisor can be narrowed down and is found to be the same on 
both Taco and Brian's case, then perhaps it will be possible to disable 
whatever process is taking place to overwrite the network configuration 
on the VPS.    Or an alternate hypervisor may be used that does not 
include that behavior.
