Yes, it DOES give you a TON of information!

The complaining wasn't just about a missing/invalid user, it was missing
users/groups from the Web GUI for symbolic links.

[root at web1 ~]# rpm -ivh --nodeps hpadu-8.26-1.noarch.rpm
Preparing...              ########################################### [100%]

chown: `hpsmh:hpsmh': invalid user

The Web GUI is the "HP System Management Homepage," a web-based interface
that consolidates and simplifies the management of individual ProLiant
servers running Microsoft Windows or Linux operating systems, including
RHEL5.	It comes as part of the ProLiant Support Packs (PSP), which are
operating system (OS) specific bundles of ProLiant optimized drivers,
utilities, and management agents.

The ProLiant Support Pack for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (i686) info is at:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lan
g=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=316529&prodNameId=3288130&swEnvOID=

The HP ProLiant Support Pack User Guide (English) is an Adobe PDF, at:

or

The PSP User Guide states there are a ton of dependencies to install it. PSP
installation for Linux servers has the following minimum requirements:

. glibc 2.2.4-26 or later
. gawk 3.1.0-3 or later
. sed 3.02-10 or later
. pciutils-2.1.8-25.i386.rpm or later

The following RPMs are also required:

. On Red Hat servers:
o rpm 4.0.4 or later
o rpm-build 4.0.4 or later
o rpm-devel 4.0.4 or later

In addition, components that are compiled from source code (such as NIC
drivers) require the presence of the following build tools:

. gcc-2.96-108.1 or later
. cpp-2.96-108.1 or later
. binutils-2.11.90.0.8 or later
. glibc-devel-2.2.4-26 or later
. kernel-headers-<version> (the version number depends on which kernel is
used)

To install using the GUI option, you also need the following RPMs:

. gtk+ -1.2.10-11 or later
. gtk- engines -0.11-3 or later

To support many HP value-add software deliverables included in the Linux
PSP, you must install the following platform-specific compatibility
libraries:

. For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 x86 servers, install the following
compatibility libraries:
o glib-1.2.10-15.i386 or later
o compat-db-4.1.25-9.i386 or later
o ncurses-5.4-13.i386 or later
o libgcc-3.4.3-9.EL4.i386 or later
o compat-gcc-32-3.2.3-47.3.i386 or later
o compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2.i386 or later
o compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386 or later
o compat-gcc-32-c++-3.2.3-47.3.i386 or later
o lm_sensors-2.8.7-2.i386 or later
o net-snmp-libs-5.3.1-14.el5.i386 or later
o net-snmp-5.3.1-14.el5.i386 or later

That's a lot of stuff. It appears there are tons of bells and whistles
available in the PSPs, the question is: is it worth it and will it break
BlueOnyx just trying to install it?

These are the packages in the PSP:

compaq/csp/linux/cpqacuxe-8.28-13.0.noarch.rpm.tar.gz

That's a lot of stuff! The HP System Management Homepage is the file:

compaq/csp/linux/hpsmh-3.0.1-73.i386.rpm.tar.gz

I installed it:

rpm -ivh --nodeps hpsmh-3.0.1-73.i386.rpm

Stopping hpsmhd: [FAILED]
Starting hpsmhd: [  OK  ]

So, it was installed and now running on port 2381.

I was able to login as root. I can't tell what it all does, but it works.

I was looking for the RAID stuff in there, but maybe that was because I,
like you, installed the RAID stuff before I installed the System Management
Homepage. I removed the RAID RPM, and reinstalled it:

[root at web1 ~]# rpm -ev --nodeps hpadu-8.26-1.i386
[root at web1 ~]# rpm -ivh --nodeps hpadu-8.26-1.noarch.rpm
Preparing...              ########################################### [100%]
   1:hpadu                ########################################### [100%]

Still didn't jump out at me. Maybe I am not seeing that much stuff in the
GUI because I didn't install the rest of that stuff. I'll play with it some
more at another time and let you know what I find out. Fortunately, it
seems to live, at least initially, with BX.
