one more note.

when I run raqbackup from a telnet and output to screen, is where I get the info from.   It does export the sql stuff, and does ftp the files, just empty files.  then at the end it gives this error:

10:10:15 > raqbackup.sh 3.2f finished!
mv: cannot stat `/home/raqbackup/raqbackup.log': No such file or directory
./raqbackup.sh: line 174: /home/raqbackup/logs/raqbackup.log: No such file or directory
[root at bx01 cron.daily]# 

again, was working, nothing changed or added to the server
