[BlueOnyx:04549] Re: CentOS-5.5 is out - new ISO image, too

Hi,

I just burned BO 5.4 image and tried that.

It still couldn't find /ks/kickstart.cfg

This machine isn't that old. The drive is a DVD-ROM drive.

After the installation of 5.5 it wasn't really right. Apache
couldn't start due to some missing libraries. Now I'm stuck.

Herb

Hi Herb,

Ouch. Do you mean that you had to guide Anaconda through the steps? I
don't like the sounds of that. You ought to be able to run the
installer by hitting "Enter" on the first screen and then tell it to
reboot when it's done. The only questions should be after the reboot.
Is the install working out OK?

I've seen the installer go nutty on a flaky image before. If you're
still in the experimental stages with this particular box & BlueOnyx
installation (ie: you haven't put it into production yet) I would
suggest re-downloading the latest ISO and making a fresh burn to CD to
see if the install results go differently for you.

I have also seen this happen using older CD-ROM drives, like you might
find on an older server. In that case, swapping out the optical drive
made all the difference. I'm not sure if it's the older drives not
supporting the way the ISO was burned or if they're just out of
alignment or what. My experience is that this happens with older
hardware, and I typically don't spend a lot of time drilling down the
reason for the failure. I usually opt to just swap the faulty hardware
and move on.
