This is not recommended.  The preferred route would be to select a PHP 
package from Solarspeed or Compass that also includes the appropriate 
ImageMagick.   This will help to ensure there are not compatibility 
problems down the road for you.

You didn't mention what version of BlueOnyx you are on.  5106R would, of 
course, be the oldest and therefore have a pretty creaky old version of 
PHP.  A commercial upgrade would be a quick and easy way to bring it up 
to date.  5107R/5108R are certainly more modern, but as with any 
Enterprise Linux based system, stability is chosen over latest release...

I suppose it would be possible to update ImageMagick just by itself, but 
make certain that you're not using any 3rd party YUM repos, and of 
course don't get your dependencies all screwed up.  I would certainly 
document each step you use so that when something breaks in the future 
you'll be able to go back and take appropriate action without 
reinventing the wheel, so to speak.
