Well, looks like one of these items is already solved in the GUI and I just 
had not figured it out.

To force the wiki to open in a new browser windows  go to Software 
Updates -> Settings -> Wiki Settings -> Wiki Overlay and turn off the 
feature.

Since this forces a new browser window it is no longer an issue when you 
have a secure connection to the GUI.
