I guess that's because Postfix (in most recommended setups) uses Dovecot 
as authentication backend for SMTP-Auth. We use Cyrus-SASL instead on 
BlueOnyx in order to be able to (optionally) have Dovecot disabled for 
those who don't want to have it always on.
