That sounds pretty strange.   Why don't they just assign you your own 
subnet?  That's the way it ought to be done.

Sounds like so long as you're set with a goofy network config from your 
upstream, that's the way it's going to have to roll.

That said, I think I've had customers put boxes on different networks 
(ie: we'll assign a customer a /28 and a /27) and they'll pick various 
IP's to put on eht box(es).  So long as one of the GW's is functional, 
it's all good.   I'm going from memory on that one, though, and I'm off 
on vacation, so... YMMV!  :)
