If I could make a humble suggestion, since you have forked BQ into BlueOnyx
maybe it's time to think about rolling the PHP the admin webserver needs
into a separate RPM and location so that the default webserver might be more
easily upgraded and changed without risking the system.

I understand it's easier to throw these ideas out than to do them so I
understand if there is a good reason for not doing so. But at this point it
seems like it could enable better security and easier upgrades by allowing
the CentOS PHP packages as they are released.

Just another 2cents...

I notice that SolarSpeed has some new BlueOnyx software available.
Notably, RoundCube webmail. I've seen this package, and I must say that
it rocks.

However, I'm interested in the fact that the listing has a * next to it
(as do some others). Does the * mean something? Is it safe to use?

I've been getting a lot of email regarding how to make the switch to
BlueOnyx. Since many of you are on this list, this seems like an
efficient way to make sure everybody has an answer. I'll re-iterate
what Michael Stauber has said previously which is there is not a yum
update from one to the other. However, CMU works pretty flawlessly.

For VIRTBIZ dedicated server customers that would like to migrate from
BlueQuartz to BlueOnyx, I am arranging to have free systems made
available to help with a smooth transition.

There's no need to pay for 2 systems at once if you're making a
migration. We can keep both systems alive for you at the same time, on
the same IP ranges. We'll fire up the new system, assign it one of
your IP's and then hand it over for you to make your customizations and
migration. When you're done transferring sites across, we'll shut down
the old system.

If anybody would like more on this, please contact me privately
(off-list) so we can make the appropriate arrangements.

Since we have varying inventory levels of specific equipment at a given
time, this will be a first-in/first-out offer.

Non VIRTBIZ customers who are interested in making a migration... I can
probably also help you out. Again, email me privately and we can
discuss specifics.

If this doesn't interest you at all, forgive the intrusion.

Thanks!

Yeah, RoundCube really rocks. Love it a lot. Compared to it other webmail
clients look old and pale. Although RoundCube is quite a "young" project.

Sorry, should have copied over the explanation from the BlueQuartz software
page, where that is mentioned.

The PKGs marked with [*] are for self installs. Means: You get the PKG and
can
install it yourself. But free install through Solarspeed is also available
if
you'd rather have it that way (some do).

There is some software for BlueQuartz and also BlueOnyx where I don't hand
the
PKGs out (at the moment, this will change), but only offer it as an
installation service.

This is/was for various reasons - like the install having too many
dependencies or requiring additional checks prior or after the install, or
the PKGs being too big to be installed through the GUI.

The other reason is a bit altruistic, of course. Some software (like the
AV-SPAM) is a long term commitment. Means: The client buys it, but then
pretty much indefenitely gets "free" updates of Clam AV and SpamAssassin
through YUM from me to go alongside. Handing the core PKGs of the AV-SPAM
out
to clients may incline a few of them to install 'em on more servers than
intended.

I do have a mechanism in the pipe which will solve that issue, so that I can

hand all PKGs out directly to clients without having to worry about this. Am

already using it for Aventurin{e} and just need to port it over.

That's true. Am still working on a mechanism that will allow to upgrade a
BlueQuartz to BlueOnyx. But truth to be told: It will not be for the faint
at
heart and I cannot guarantee that it will work 100% for everyone.

After all, even the official canon of the CentOS developers is: There is no
seamless upgrade from CentOS4 to CentOS5.

The more "customized" a BlueQuartz is, the more tricky the procedure will
get
anyway. I'll do my best to roll an upgrade mechanism out, but for the time
being (and even afterwards) CMU will be the safest and cleanest way to do
it.

Yeah, this was contemplated long and hard prior to release. Especially at
times when we were really fighting with the odds and sods which stood in the

way of Sausalito running under PHP5. Which it flatly refused for quite some
time, until we finally tackled that obstacle.

At that time the idea was to keep PHP4 for the GUI and simply just "move" it

out of the way of the vendor supplied PHP-5.1.6.

Likewise, with PHP-5.1.6 being a bit aged (but the CentOS guys keep it
patched
security wise) the next idea was just what you suggested: Keep the GUI using

PHP-5.1.6 and provide an additional and more modern PHP for Apache.

However, the issue here is: PHP upgrades often enough. Or there are things
that need to be patched security wise. If we step away from the CentOS
supplied PHP, then updates must be provided for it as well. Going that extra

mile - and doing it free of charge - doesn't sounds really compelling. :o)

Upgraded PHP PKGs (PHP-5.2.8 at the moment) are can be ordered through
Solarspeed for those that need it. It costs a few bucks (50,- EUR) , but
once
you have it, future updates will cost only a fraction of what you paid
initially (25,- EUR per update).

Exactly. The CentOS provided PHP-5.1.6 will be kept updated through YUM and
unless you really need some PHP-5.2.X functions it's the best choice in the
longer run.

No, I wrote that file to have Shell-Access to MySQL ...
You can forget about this: I found out that this is a browser problem:
My browser was still authorized to phpMyAdmin as I logged in as "root"
before and didn't close this window...

I'm not able to get past the clearpart screen, and get an error relating to
sda.
Have anyone else seen this error?
My server runs SATA raid1. I've tried the install with RAID enabled and
disabled, and that makes no difference.
I downloaded the newest release.
Any thoughts?
